Worldwide Community of the UOW Alumni Network
The UOW Alumni Network continues to expand - now with over 80,000 alumni worldwide and with 10 alumni chapters, sub-chapters and networks in Australia and overseas.
In April this year the UOW Alumni Relations team expanded the Career Ahead program to provide practical interview skills for current students across all faculties of the University. The program saw over 40 alumni return to the Wollongong Campus to take part in the speed interviewing program. More than 100 current domestic and international students benefited from the professional experience of UOW alumni through the program. Feedback from alumni and students alike was extremely
positive, with alumni commenting favourably on the improvements to the program.
Through the Annual Alumni Fundraising Appeal held in July and August, we had the opportunity to engage alumni in the ongoing developments and expansion of the University of Wollongong . The Appeal was tremendously successful, not only reaching the financial targets set, but also enabling us to contact 3,000 alumni to gain their feedback on the Alumni Network and to advise them of future initiatives available to them.
Domestic alumni have seen a variety of networking events held in Wollongong , Sydney and Canberra in 2009, with a number of events still to come. We look forward to expanding our events program to involve a greater number of alumni in 2010.
I had the pleasure of visiting alumni in both Hong Kong and Singapore in late 2008, where a successful high tea event was held in Singapore that was well-attended by UOW alumni. I am now very excited to be visiting Thailand in September of this year and look forward to meeting the Chapter members and UOW alumni residing in Thailand .
I would like to take the opportunity to thank the Thailand Chapter for their ongoing contribution to the UOW Alumni Network. I am very much looking forward to celebrating the success of the Chapter when I attend the Alumni and Friends Function on the 12th of September.
